My Story

                                                                                         48 Hours F.O.R.M.E Challenge

On Thursday 16th May we will be completing a challenge in 48 Hours for the FORME Charity. This was set up in 1995 to raise funds for research into the use of osteopathic techniques in the treatment of M.E, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).

ME/CFS is a clinically defined condition characterised by severe, disabling fatigue and a combination of other symptoms which are made worse by exercise. ME/CFS can affect anybody of any age, gender or ethnicity. For young people education can be severely disrupted and for many adults employment becomes impossible. Sufferers may be housebound or confined to bed for months or years.

In May 2018 this disease affected my 18 year old daughter and life changed dramatically. Therefore myself and Rob Bryson would like to raise as much money and awareness as possible for this amazing charity. We will be Kayaking 66 miles along the Caledonian Canal from Fort William to Inverness. We will then cycle 72.2 miles from Inverness to Ben Nevis before beginning to climb Ben Nevis – all within 48 hours.

The NHS state there is no cure for ME/CFS and only provide £1.00 per person with ME/CFS, per year into research. This disease currently affects 260,000 in the UK costing the UK economy £3.3 billion. The use of osteopathic techniques appears to be transforming the lives of people living with this debilitating condition, but research into this can only be done through the generosity of fundraising events. We hope to raise £2,500 through this event for the FORME Charity and its research.
